I'd ideally go with some ragwart, creeping thistle, spear thistle, dandelion, cat’s ear, rough hawkbit, common knapweed, scentless mayweed, corn marigold and as these produce the most nectar sugar so are the most nutritious. But understandably not everyone can have these in thier gardens.

I'm not sure about the marigolds. I watched some hoverflies land on them... But they were unable to locate the centre of the flower and actually drink anything. I didn't feel sad for long though because slugs had eaten them within a week.
