I think it's both. They genuinely assumed liberal hegemony in academia would continue forever, giving them a windmill to tilt at. Now that the right is in power and is actively ending all research science their entire worldview looks beyond ridiculous.

The pipeline from "criticized for sexually harassing students" to "brave counter cultural Rogansphere hero" is about 2 inches long.

Only America and it's allies are allowed to drop bombs, everyone else needs to just sit there and get bombed in silence I guess.

There's a new paper that recently came out that studied brain activity in people who use llms to write. And they found that people who start with an llm and then make edits have massive deficits in critical thinking and creativity compared to those who don't. It basically makes you dumber over time.

Well they're lying to us. Either they lied about it being gen AI then, or they're lying about it NOT being gen AI now.
June 14, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Sure but this feels more like a lie.
June 14, 2025 at 2:12 PM
This still doesn't make any sense to me, why would they proudly call it "leveraging gen AI?"
June 14, 2025 at 10:58 AM
So were they lying the first time? Or are they lying now?
June 14, 2025 at 10:40 AM
Yep. The entire economy is basically just a gambling game now. Generate hype, pump a stock, sell at the peak, rug pull the company, screw retail investors and workers, rinse and repeat.

Yeah we're being asked to do the job of 3 people, so an app that makes it easier is very tempting. Unfortunately the app makes you worse at thinking so I don't think it's a good trade off

I gotta be honest I think the era of official channels working is over. You can literally choke out an entire town but if you bribe the president you can just do it.

The company’s turbines — enough to power 280,000 homes — run without emission controls in an area that leads Tennessee in asthma hospitalizations.

Hell I'm just an ecologist and I don't use AI for any actual research just cause it might make a stupid mistake I'll get blamed for. I can't imagine trusting it for human health.
June 13, 2025 at 11:07 PM
It's crazy to me because we already have really good speech to text tech that isn't generative AI. The fact that they want their notes summarized by AI tells me a lot
June 13, 2025 at 11:05 PM
Doge cut it already so the guys who stood with trump at his inauguration can make more AI. Remember that? The same guys selling LLMs to iNat were partying with trump lmao
