Obviously it's not the only way it's ever effective. You're just being contrarian for the sake of it. Now that we are in the outcome stage, it's not cruelty to articulate the chain of events that led here. It's to help people learn from their mistakes.

Recognising and articulating the chain of events that leads to an outcome is not a lack of empathy. It's not celebrating hardship. It's simply helping people to learn from their mistakes.
