I connect students with their futures.
He’s not going to like it when those boys latch on because they won’t let go.

It’s quite clear that the democratic party abandoned the working class some time ago. That and barely producing tangible benefits. The party has been more about preaching than actually helping people.

@parsnipsoup.bsky.social, Canada is definitely feisty but, as Mark Carney himself points out, it has a long way to to in establishing its independent presence.

What I see as the major threat to American universities is that they’ve lost touch with America itself. Is your major selling proposition really going to be, “spend a lot on me while I tell you, you don’t meet my criteria for admission and thus cannot accede to the good life I promise”?

An exception seems to be Canada, but they’re small and weak. Trump has been bullying them about becoming the fifty-first state for a reason. So long story short, I don’t see anyone taking over our previous role. Instead, I see everyone gathering in their own little corner.

What seems to be happening is that these other destinations are taking steps to retain their own people. Multinational companies are hoping to bridge the international divide by setting up satellite offices and collaborating virtually. Will nationalists accept that?

I see what you’re saying, but these other destinations all have their own, sometimes right-wing, anti-immigrant issues. Looking at Germany and France, would science researchers from non EU countries feel welcomed? Same for India and China.

Not sure how to get through to you guys, but my apple subscription stopped working 5 days ago, so I canceled it. Considered signing up for the substack, but they’re constantly pushing subscriptions on me, and it’s unclear how I get the ad free plan for you. You need to rationalize this.

This just seems to be the automation you predicted would take over if we tried to reshore manufacturing. My guess is that they’ll just retool the process to require less handwork.

I do this too infrequently myself.

When I read these numbers, I realized the true impact of this bill was to create a police state.

This sickens me. Just keep carrying on.

A lot of times, I don’t think the investors have any kind of real understanding of the technology.

They don't like the rather pedestrian gains of the type I appreciate because it doesn't fit their overhype ethos.

Google Search Queries -> AI assistants in the editor

These were all speed-ups and reduced tedium and uncertainty. None of them gave perfect answers.

I've always thought this AGI or super intelligence nonsense was egocentric BS. Further, I often think SV often gets high on its own supply.

Remember, I'm not one of you Silicon Valley insiders. I just see real progress in the following sense:
Go to Borders to buy a ton of books where I would search through the index and pray -> Stack Overflow
Stack Overflow -> well-crafted Google Search queries

I found this article on the relationship between learning to code and learning a second language interesting. Maybe it offers some clues on why LLMs are so good in supporting programming. www.washington.edu/news/2024/04...
Q&A: UW research shows neural connection between learning a second language and learning to code
New research from the University of Washington shows the brain’s response to viewing errors in both the syntax (form) and semantics (meaning) of code appeared identical to those that occur when...

Mind you, that's not the dream of AI that you see being hyped. But, it is feasible right now and really helpful. I think the trick will be improving and bullet proofing the UX for cases like I just described.

Having now used AI a pretty fair amount to get actual work done, I find it excels at textual analysis. You have to tweak your prompt a fair amount at the beginning, but if you have a high enough volume of texts to analyze, it saves you time and leverages your high priced talent.

I also had blogs with Movable Type and had student create blogs with Movable Type.
