Final (for now) wrap-up thoughts on my Hunger Games series re-read and watch: Why did I do this??

I want to mention how they handled the death of PSH. His talk w/ Katniss is in a letter read by Haymitch bc Plutarch can’t be seen w/ her - a respectful way to handle this part. PSH brought a cleverness/humanity to the character that may have influenced the young version of him in the pages of SOTR.

Mockingjay | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The number of times I had to stop reading to make notes drawing parallels to the real world, in ways that I absolutely was not prepared for - oof. I am really surprised at how big of an impact this re-read has had. I’ll talk about it more in a wrap-up post, but I’m glad I did it.

Catching Fire | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Baby when I tell you, the WAY this series holds SO MUCH MORE MEANING after reading Sunrise On The Reaping - whew! 😪 I almost ran out of tabs in this damn book with the times I wanted to cry for/hug Haymitch Abernathy. #BookSky

Screen Adaptation Thoughts | The Hunger Games 🏹
Captures the essence of the story - some convos are word for word dialogue from the books.
Aside from making things like the mutts less horrifying, the biggest change is the Seneca/Snow scenes but I understand why they are a useful device in the film.

The Hunger Games | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shrek would love this book. (Because onions have layers - and so does this book when you read it as an adult, as a parent, as a woman, as someone living through a hostile government takover.) 🧅 #thehungergames

Screen Adaptation Thoughts | The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 🎶🐦‍⬛🐍
Don't get me started on how much of the D12 portion of the story was cut/altered - the ACTUAL catalyst for Snow's eternal vendetta against D12, girls who sing Covey songs, and mockingjays!

Recent Read: The Hunger Games Moved from #theballadofsongbirdsandsnakes right into the OG trilogy. The layers that are added to this story after reading Ballad and Sunrise are... really incredible, to say the least. Looking forward to talking more about this in future posts! #thehungergames

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (UPDATED REVIEW)

My series re-read had caused me to change my review of this book - swipe for the original, but know that the updated one is my definitive review for #TBOSAS book. #BookSky

Current Read: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Moved from #SunriseOnTheReaping (x2) right into Ballad before I devour the OG trilogy. I'm enjoying this read more than I did the first time, bc I now have addtl info on the Covey, & understand the point of this novel better than I initially did.

Sunrise on the Reaping | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (spoiler-free)

A hundred stars. Stars forever. I'm not okay. I haven't been this consumed by a book in a very long time.

More to come.

re: my #2025classicschallenge - I fear I will not be including them as options for my "top monthly reads" because I cannot make P&P my top read of the year. (I mean, I can, but I'm going to limit it to new-to-me books)

Y'all see the halftime show of the Pulitzer winner speaking on how America is built on the backs of black men? If you missed that, you might wanna take a 2nd look.
Here's a stack ft another Pulitzer winner: Toni Morrison. Baldwin wasn't awarded the prize, but he should've been.
