My 1st dog, Buddy, was actually Buddy Tiberius Rhodes.

My current guy came to me as Jax, which I thought wasn't enough name for all 104lbs of him. So he and I discussed it, and he's now Jackson Bird. Altho', I joke it's REALLY Jackson Bird Pollack Salvador M. Jones.

Quick tip: When driving in the car w/ur #dogs, whether they're strapped in or not, every time you hit the break, tell your dog to Hold On, as if saying to Sit, what you'll find is they'll start girding themselves for stops, and holding on better during the drive. Especially helpful w/a sudden stop!

Book except: He met Banjo as a tiny puppy, so Buddy was the elder. We didn’t see Banjo again until he was fully grown, and, from that time on, for almost as long as we were in Riverdale, they were Besties. When the dogs would meet up, Buddy’d chase Banjo in circles, with Banjo always trying to pull further and further away. I’ll never forget the day Buddy figured out a trick he would use again later with other dogs: As he chased Banjo, he suddenly realized he could cut right through the circle they’d been running in, and he caught Banjo by surprise. Whenever they were done, they’d sit together, drink water, and usually go for another round. There was this one day in particular, when Buddy and I got to the play area, Banjo wasn’t there. His family lived in a house nearby, and it didn’t look like anyone was home. We looked around for a long bit, waited, tossed a ball, but eventually I had to tell him, “Sorry, Bud, looks like no Banjo today.” Buddy sniffed the ground and tugged on his leash. He looked at me over his shoulder with his by-now-familiar-to-me “I’ve got something to show you, poppa!” look, asking me to follow him. So I did. We went along a dirt pathway, it wound and winded in different directions, Buddy sniffing the ground along the way and, every 10 yards or so, stopping to look around. I felt like I was in a movie, watching my dog chase down a fugitive. Tommy Lee Jones stepped out of the woods from 1993: “What I want from Buddy Rhodes is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse, and doghouse in the area. Your fugitive's name is Dr. Banjo Kimble!” We went for a quarter of a mile, give or take, and we eventually turned onto a path we’d never been down before. Just beyond us was a clearing; there, a small lake I’d never seen. I thought, “Ohh, he must’ve smelled this place.” However, as we neared it, and the trees got less dense, no longer obscuring the view of the tiny lake, I saw sitting on a log adjacent to it a woman and her dog — Banjo. Well holy Tommy Lee Jones! Wouldja lookit that!…

Quick tip: If u see a dog on your walk w/tail tucked between its legs, ears pinned back, &/or head hunched down, this dog is experiencing anxiety and MAY BE prone to snap—⚠️keep your dog AWAY just to be safe! (A later post will detail how to fix if this is YOUR dog!)

My dog Buddy was a tough-guy—broke up fights between other dogs at the park, once tackled a dog 2x his size b/c it was picking on his friend, stopped 3(!) muggings in our neighborhood...&, like most dogs, HATED anything spicy. But this fluff?? LOVES spice & is STILL waiting for more of these puffs!😆

It is SHOCKINGLY *easy* to teach #Dogs Not to eat garbage on walks:
1. Get OFF ur phone, pay attention😉
2. Bring HIGH-VALUE treats you ONLY give on walks
3. Lead ur dog; do NOT let dog lead you
4. When dog spots something, entice w/treat, DON'T give it or say GOOD! until dog's attn is fully on YOU!
Doing the above (see post) combined with proper walking (see image) will teach your dog not to eat things on the ground within a few weeks, but it could take several months for the training to IMPRINT. Golden Retriever Jackson Bird attacking a bale of straw!

#Saturdays Quick Tip: If you ever hire a Dog Walker, 1. Do NOT use a service that sends a new person each week. You want someone dependable. 2. Set up the 1st walk & *secretly watch/follow* the walker—to ensure they're handling & treating your #DOGS properly!! It's SO important!! #DogSky #Pawrents

What are U thankful for with YOUR PET? I'm #ThankfulFor this goof being a quick learner. Vicious when I got him, Jackson Bird also thought the ONLY way to get my attention was bring me socks from the hamper.
Trained it out: I put the sock back, had him sit, found out what he wanted & rewarded.😊✌️🐾

All day long, as we waited for the doctor to make time for the x-rays, there was yelling up and down the halls of “Hey, let’s get this done” and “Yo, what’re you doin’!?” and “Ay, we gotta keep movin’ here!” It was New Yawk through and through. The vet tech came in — a young woman who looked extremely confident. Said the doc to the tech, “OK, we’re going to lift him up onto the table.” Buddy was now 84 pounds. He still had that super-power of increasing his density. I warned the doc and her tech that “That’s not going to work. Can I help?” I got a look from both of them that said, “Um, OK, Doggy Daddy, you just sit back; we got this!” You could almost hear them laughing at me for being a helicopter parent. So I backed off…smiling to myself. Now standing outside the room, I leaned against a wall, happy to watch the show… The tech grabbed Buddy at his back end; the two women nodded at each other, ready to lift. And then they heaved. Oh, except for one problem… Buddy Rhodes had become immovable. Dr. to Vet Tech: “Are you lifting?” Vet Tech: “Yeah.” Dr. to Vet Tech: “OK. Again, on Three. One... Two…” Nope. Dr. to Vet Tech: “What’s going on, he’s not that big!” Vet Tech (with embarrassed laughter): “I don’t know!” Dr. to Vet Tech: “OK, well, let’s try it again. We’ve gotten much bigger dogs than this onto the table! Lift harder — on three.” And on three, they both let out groans as Buddy stood stone-faced…and heavy as a boulder. I had been forced out of the room and was watching through the window of the door. I opened the door demurely and said in my best Woody Allen voice, “Um, so, would now be a good time for me to, um, offer a little help?” Dr.: “Yeah, what’s going on?” Me: “It’s Buddy Rhodes. Welcome to his world.”

Ginger, turmeric, barley powder, flax meal (not seeds), beetroot powder, chicory root powder. All HEALTHY & ur pup might🧡it!

#THANKSGIVING TIP:
Please don't forget: Turkey bones and chicken bones aren't safe for #dogs!! They can SHATTER in a dog's mouth and then tear the trachea or stomach lining. Stuffing IS OK, but no raisins. Mainly cuz raisins don't belong in stuffing! Like, seriously, cut it out!😁😉

Ever have an aggressive dog or other animal run at you & YOUR dog? Well, let me tell u about something I call THE WOLVERINE MANEUVER‼️ (aka, THE MOMMA BEAR🐻): I put myself into the position of Wolverine below, except w/1 foot fwd & let out a roar! Used this 3x in my life & it worked!
