Fukasa Daisho Statue, Kongobu-ji, #Japan. The head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect in Wakayama Prefecture. It is said that Chogen enshrined it there. It is enshrined as the guardian deity of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, which was brought back from Tianjik by the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang, on which the legendary novel Journey to the West is based. Status in the half-lotus seat, red pine wood (common on the #Korean peninsula), Koryu-ji, #Japan. It is said that the powerful Hata Kawakatsu family received a #Buddha statue from #Korea and presented it to Prince Shotoku, who founded Koryu-ji. A #Buddha statue in the style of the Southern Dynasty. It is called the "Poet of the East" because it is reminiscent of a sculpture by Rodin. #BuddhistArt #Buddhism

Production began in 745 at the request of Emperor Shomu, and it took 28 years to complete at a total construction cost of 465.7 billion yen (current). In 752, Bodhisenna, a monk from India, held an enlightening memorial service in front of 10,000 people. #BuddhistArt #Buddhism
