Teams chat 1/4 with my supervisor Michael. Today 2:48 PM Me to Michael: Dude. Didn't T get in trouble for wearing a "political shirt" when his shirt said "abortion is healthcare" - at least that's what I remember people talking about, even though I am not sure that should even be classified as political tbh. But E is posting a photo with a Charlie Kirk shirt which is 10000% political. Is the difference that one is worn during office hours and the other is a shared photo or is it just because she's talking about the death of an animal that she gets a pass? Michael to me: I had only seen J be given grief for a "her body, her choice". Did T get it too? Me to Michael: Also, to kinda add to that. The watercooler chat was originally set up as a side chat thing, for stuff that's not related to work. So maybe we should have a team updates chat that specifically only for work, so people who don't want to participate in the watercooler chat can remove themselves (continued in next screenshot) Me to Michael, confused frkmmeofiois screenshot: chat can remove themselves without missing important updates. I am still going to ping them on this, but I really don't think they'll make her take it down. With that said, I think that your suggestion is a good compromise for something like this. I am actually surprised this hasn't happened before. Although there is another team member who often uses a mug on video calls that is from another opinionated conservative commentator so (blah face emoji) Me to Michael: Not shocked. Me to Michael: I'm not saying that she needs to take it down either. I'd be happy with a compromise of getting a general message (maybe even after holidays) to everyone saying and pictures shared are equivalent to having those pictures in your desk and if you'd be told to remove them at work then you shouldn't share them on the chat, and that includes shirts with political messages, cups/mugs, etc (Michael heart reacted) Michael to me: I think that is completely reasonable and should not be difficult for people to do (sole face emoji) Let me run it by B and S to get their read on implementing it.
