The more I look at her, the dumber I feel about not wanting to stare. Or painting Mr. Ramon's fence while he recovers from shoulder surgery. It's the odd job that doubles as community service, good for both his pockets and his ego. His pop says it's juvenile, insisting that this kind of work can't go on resumes or make enough money to put towards a proper retirement fund. That's why it's work cut out for high school kids rather than college freshmen. Honestly, Mike could care less when all he needs is money right now. Money to get out of this town for good. Money to get himself 'fixed' up. Dillon isn't really a bad place to grow up in. Everyone knows each other well enough that nobody ever locks their doors at night, but as it goes with most small towns, it's a dead end street for someone like him. Maybe he does prefer being away at college. Billings isn't about it being a big city—he could care less about big city living—but rather the fresh faces that have more in common with him than he does with the folks he grew up seeing every day.

Took some time to work on a short story that's been sitting in my drafts since 2019.

I doubt my ability to crank out 20k words in three-ish weeks for that one sub-opp going around, but, pretty stoked to have some cleaned up gross ass stories to maybe shop around later on. 🤘

He had never seen goats jump that high or chickens peck their beaks to blunt stumps in desperate, oftentimes fatal attempts to get to the troughs. But the goat at his feet hadn't been beaten or eaten. It laid undisturbed on a patch of flattened grass, legs partially folded in parody of the sacred lamb."
