Yes, and for those who don’t remember, Summers made numerous vile comments throughout his public life. His misogynistic comments about women in the sciences when he was Harvard President should have closed every door.

A much, much, much, much gorier retelling of the Book of Job, that is.

I felt bad for the wolves. But anyways: A retelling of the Book of Job or a variation on the origin story of Superman?

Sorry—those talented Rodgers spell their name with a “d” (as I just learned by looking on Libby for “Shy: The Alarmingly Outspoken Memoirs of Mary Rodgers”

An insult also tossed off by a very young Steve Buscemi in 1986’s “Parting Glances.” It was such a delicious put-down that it sent me right to the Biographical Dictionary. I only learned the Looney Tunes connection…right now, reading this post.

So much of American culture and politics of the 80s was a (negative) reaction to the changes of the 60s & 70s. The computer revolution (“Information Age”) was framed as new & breakthrough—but that was building on a hundred years of effort starting with Ada Lovelace writing on software development.

If you remember how it was in the 70s, at least you’ll be remembering a ferocious pushback that was so unsettling and transformative that this historical period has been mocked and misremembered in an ongoing campaign to tear it all down.

I second “She Bends.” But also adding the equally famous “Neon Works” helmed by Jim Rizzo in Oakland. It’s a small community—everyone knows each other!

I loved this film when I saw it during its first-run release! The two musical numbers with David Bowie singing the title track “Absolute Beginners” and “That’s Inspiration” are among my favorite songs by Bowie! Your post makes me hopeful the film has been restored and, hopefully, re-released!!!
