Uh, I’m from rural PA and my daughter lived in NYC. Took the subway everywhere by myself and never felt threatened. One time a crazy woman was slinging snot (unpleasant but not life threatening) but other than that no issues in 10 years. I even took it from Penn Station to Astoria with a suitcase!
