These senators didn't get the message that their power was to stand up and be counted on the right side. Perhaps they thought it was more important to save the filibuster even though that will surely fall when push comes to shove against the Republicans again.

Appointing Gaetz was a stunt, possibly as a favor to Gaetz. As little regard as I have for Trump, I doubt he ever intended this appointment to go thru. It would waste what might be called political capital.
