Well, even accepting the horrifying justification for further blurring the line between fantasy and reality, this particular conspiracy theory is just as likely to depress turnout by driving cynicism/fatalism. Also, we're going to lose a race to the bottom on conspiracy theories

This is a ton of wedgies this early in the season, right?

CTA solicited comments at some point but no one ever responded to my email about cutting stops on the 8

Greatest city in the world, culturally and historically important to America, and fully deserving of a great documentary

Are there numbers on the demographics of DOGE cuts / other government RIFs? I wouldn't be surprised if the effect fell particularly hard on Black women

This would have been dumb at any point since at least 1994, but it's especially dumb during this administration.

I agree they probably won't touch the stove. But in addition to the obvious question about whether the Court gives the for-cause requirement teeth, this Tarullo paper raised some issues the Court didn't have to address in Wilcox, including a way Trump can avoid HE:

Can the Federal Reserve be split in two? | Brookings
Former Fed gov. Tarullo explores the idea that a president can fire a Fed governor over regulatory (but not monetary) policy & why this split is untenable.

They'll probably stick with it, but dicta from an unsigned shadow docket order doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.
November 18, 2025 at 8:41 PM
The Wilcox opinion? Sort of a thin reed since it's dicta and, as Kagan points out, it doesn't make much sense.

Still, I assume SCOTUS is too afraid of the fallout to let Trump mess with the Federal Reserve.

Front-runners don't have a great record of winning the Dem nomination. Who cares?

This is just my personal wish list as a Chicagoan who's from Louisiana. Thinking nationally, I'd guess electrifying Metrolink and extending the Acela into Virginia (with the goal of extending HSR to Charlotte and Atlanta) would be better

Also electrifying the Wolverine

Less specific, but:

Detroit - Toronto connection, routing the Borealis through Madison, New Orleans - Baton Rouge connection
