Visited Symphony Hall in Boston last night with friends to hear the music of Star Wars. In 1977 I had destroyed my knee and was hobbling around after surgery looking for cool places to hang out in the heat of the Illinois summer. Saw Star Wars 13 times in theaters just to keep cool. Great memories.

My 401k is going down the drain. There are no adults in the Oval Office. My stomach hurts.

Here is a kitten.

Remember when Bush said, “Kuwait should have never started it. You could have made a deal. I could have made a deal so Kuwait could have kept almost all the land. But, you know, Iraq should get to keep the land it captured. Tough luck for the Kuwait.”

Yeah, me neither.

I'm coming off of the worst head cold I've had in years. Not COVID, not the flu, just a stupid head cold. It kicked me to the curb for two weeks.

Now, like Rip Van Winkle, I awaken and suddenly remember why I stopped watching the news. {sigh}

Anyway, here are some cats: Sisters Muon and Neutrino.

Floor of Bath Abbey in the UK taken August 16, 2014. Most Americans have trouble imagining a thousand year reign. The British think about their roots going back to the Romans.

It's lovely country, and I hope to return if only to take in more museums and cathedrals, and take more pictures.

“Not only [Lewis's] most important book but one of the most important books ever produced in this country.”—The New Yorker

Read this book a few years ago and cannot recommend it highly enough. A book, sadly, for our times.

From 50+ years ago: a parade in my home town. This was one of the first rolls of film I ran through my father's rangefinder Olympus camera. Check out the old cars!

Small distraction for children at the Lowell Spinners baseball games. A swing with rainbow lights glows in this long exposure.

Even simple scenes can be interesting if you think about framing and exposure.

The boys of summer. July 13, 2013 in Edward A. LeLacheur park in Lowell, MA. The Lowell Spinners were members of the single-A New York Penn League, one of the oldest leagues in the country before it was shuttered in 2020.

I miss those summer nights with my scorebook and a cool drink.

I have, with great sadness, cancelled my Washington Post subscription.

I’m not angry; I’m disappointed. It was a good paper. I was happy to pay for access to it. I depended on it for the straight story.

But trust is both hard-earned and easily lost. It didn’t have to end this way.

Here I am with my niece's cat "Hanks" while operating in a ham radio contest (yes, amateur radio operators compete). Hanks was pretty good about not pulling on cables so long as I reached over and gave him a rub once in a while.

Great cat (the best). We miss him.

Friendly neighborhood raptor. This exquisite specimen has been hanging around for quite a while keeping the rodent population down.

One day I was cooling my heals on the deck when he swooped down and pounced on a critter in the brush. What a show!

Sandy is standing before the giant replica of a violin in the seaport in Sydney, Nova Scotia. We enjoyed our cruise up the Canadian maritime, but the cruise line gave us far too little time in each port. So many beautiful places, so little time!
