The acting, cinematography, and score in The Brutalist are so strong, it makes it hard to see the flaws of The Brutalist, a movie with a lot to say, but lacking a coherent point of view. A beautiful, but ultimately forgettable, spectacle.

I’m going to create some boundaries around when I take in any news or social media. I believe taking care of ourselves needs to be a priority. I’m going to try to limit news consumption to the morning and be off of social media after 6PM.

So excited for @justintsburke.bsky.social on the release of his upcoming cookbook, Potluck Desserts. I’m proud to have worked on it. I’m also excited to cook from it.

Hear me out: Emilia Perez as a campy eight part limited series directed by Pedro Almodóvar. He would do something special with that material (the film is a total mess in every way).

Doing some work on my kitchen and considering making the switch from gas to induction. Anyone have good recs? Ideally I’d get a single stove/oven unit, but can consider separate cooktop and ovens.

How are we all getting through this week? I’ve had a mug of hot chocolate every night.

I’m so glad I finally watched Origin. I, like so many others, was moved by Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste. While I had mixed feelings about Selma, I thought Ava DuVernay handled this material beautifully. It’s an interesting companion piece to A Real Pain, which I watched last night and enjoyed.

I’m working on digitizing family videos and just got to my baby video, which includes such gems as my bris. Unfortunately, it’s in pretty bad shape (the VHS, not the bris). 😣
