I saw research on the 2 vs 1 space comparing how fast various groups of people read based on it.
There was no advantage or disadvantage in either case for any group, except for one: people who were used to and expecting two spaces were slowed if there was only 1.
That’s what converted me.

My guess is that he’s transitioning from the old school (and correct) “two spaces after a period” to the Gen Z standard (as if they had those) of “one space after a period” (they don’t even use periods).
