While prevention is a crucial goal, RFK Jr.'s track record of undermining vaccination programs (one of the most cost-effective prevention tools) makes this stance contradictory. He's ignorant to the fact that many infectious diseases cause chronic disease like HPV, HIV, Hepatitis B, etc. 5/

Let me get this straight. He wants stricter FDA involvement while also promoting anti-regulatory stances and attacks on institutions like the CDC and FDA over vaccines, eroding public trust in these agencies. He's awfully quiet about the predatory unregulated dietary supplement industry. 4/

While advocating for food regulation is reasonable, RFK Jr.'s broader rejection of established science undermines the credibility of his claims. His history of promoting misinformation detracts from the scientific integrity needed for effective policy reform. 3/

Chronic disease prevention is vital, but RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine rhetoric directly undermines public health strategies that prevent infectious diseases from contributing to chronic illnesses. Presenting him as a champion of prevention ignores this contradiction. 2/

In the 1940s-50s, polio outbreaks paralyzed or killed thousands annually in the U.S., leaving families in fear. The introduction of the Salk (1955) & Sabin (1961) vaccines changed everything. Polio cases dropped from 60,000+ a year to zero in the U.S. by 1979. 2/

Great question! While a single mutation (like Gln226Leu) can improve H5N1’s ability to bind to human receptors, it would likely need multiple mutations to achieve sustained human-to-human transmission. Vigilance is key, but we’re not at that stage yet.

How does it spread? 😷 Chickens, cows, and pigs can act as intermediaries, allowing viral reassortment. This could produce a strain capable of efficient human-to-human transmission. Vigilance is essential. #PandemicRisk 7/

Fauci’s Warning 🚨 H5N1 is a few mutations away from human transmission. Misinformation and public distrust could hinder containment efforts. Cooperation is essential for global health. #PublicHealth 6/

The Vaccine Challenge 🛡️💉 Animal vaccines control outbreaks but can mask the virus. Human vaccines? Stockpiles exist but may not match emerging strains. Rapid response and global accessibility are key. 5/

Is a pandemic likely? H5N1 needs multiple mutations for human-to-human spread. Similar concerns arose with H7N9 in 2013, but a pandemic never materialized. Monitoring and testing are critical to prevent surprises. 4/

Why is H5N1 concerning? 🔬 Small mutations, like Gln226Leu, improve the virus’s ability to infect humans. Its growing host range increases exposure risks. How close are we to sustained human transmission?

What is H5N1? 🦠 It’s a bird flu virus spreading globally among birds and, rarely, to humans. The Clade 2.3.4.4b strain is now infecting birds, marine mammals, and even dairy cows. Learn why this matters. #PandemicPreparedness 2/

RFK Jr: If you give Black children “resilience” then “the inevitable racism” will “bounce off” them like they are “the Avengers” because “they will be immune to it” and “then we don’t have to stop racism altogether, because we’re never going to be able to do that.”
