Song for the Lady in the Radiator Death is a star that laughs us to sleep, sincere as a melting sundae or stumbling on rollerskates, and right now I hear its soft singing drums outside, a flash, then thunder—and the tiny wet suns that bead the window have me thinking Plato’s outside on Maryland Avenue waiting to tell me I’m in the Cave, that when he climbs back up to pull the lever, I’ll see it differently, washed of all that these last few years have done to make time meaningless, geometry’s ray, begun and always forward, toward neither somewhere nor something, but some way, that the next time I see the laughing star again, and she sings In Heaven, everything is fine, it won’t be death, no, or maybe it will be—the point’s not the long thunder, but the brief light.

Got my copy of the new zine from @unwashed53207.bsky.social out of Bay View, with a poem written after making a rock ‘n’ roll pilgrimage in March.
Clear Lake Microscopically, they’re still here, an aura of blood in the buried glacier that settled this foundation called Iowa. I don’t deny the soul in places like this— a midden of sunglasses, a Modelo tallboy left for the Son, the searing wind. For me, a stop after a job interview, business before pilgrimage, what they might have called a gig, those boys all gone before thirty, printed on the Voyager discs that never leave, cannot leave orbit, though I do, back down the fenceline of this cornfield to the gravel lot where a canvas sign warps “American Pie” to a ribbon between t-posts.
