I'll be also migrating my account to mastodon.social. Wish me luck that it works. And thank you @sebinthestars for all your effort in the past years.

The new #pope has a degree in #mathematics and wrote a #phd thesis on "The role of the local prior" which I assume is a novel concept in #bayesian #statistics.

Look what I found at my mini-pond in my garden. I believe it's a blue-tailed #damselfly, and I would be happy if any expert could confirm this.

Paper submitted that should have been submitted a few years ago, but always got delayed.

There is something special about the first salad that is completely from your own #garden (except the same, pepper, oil and vinegar).

It looks like that I can't see any polls when I'm using the Fedilab app. Is this a bug, or is there somewhere a hidden setting where I deactivated polls without knowing it?

Oh great. Overleaf has AI as well? And it works just as expected. First it hallucinates a problem that doesn't exist. Then it suggest a fix that doesn't work. And finally, it wants money for more 'helpful' suggestions.

Unfortunately, it was a bit cloudy today, but one can see clearly see the effect of the partial #eclipse on the yield of our solar modules. The Sun was covered about 20% at the maximum here near Cologne/Bonn.

Not a very good photo, but you can see the #eclipse.

Just learned that the district court (Amtsgericht) in Emmerich is on a street called Sigh-Alley (Seufzerallee). 😃

Sir Terry Pratchett was one of two people who I quoted directly in my dissertation. This line from Feet of Clay was the motto for my introductory chapter:

"This is where we’ve filled ourselves up with so many questions that they’re starting to overflow and become answers."

It resonated with […]

Dear astro folks,

with the current crackdown on science in the US, we probably cannot rely on all services provided to the scientific community from the US to function properly in the future and we may need to think about moving them elsewhere. What services would you think of that are […]

I never played an instrument in my whole life. Nobody in my family ever played any instrument, and we never had an instrument at home when I was a kid. So it never occurred to me, that it would be something for me.

Now my youngest son has the chance to learn an instrument at school, and he […]

The #aas had announced that the summer meeting 2026 will be held at a central location and the summer meeting in 2027 will be fully online to reduce the carbon footprint of the meetings. This is a small step in the right direction, and I hope that other organizations follow this example.

If we […]
