Nah is more accurately French, I think. I grew up in Appalachia, hearing the name Naomi pronounced only “nay-oh-me” (most often “nay-oh-muh”). Then I came up north where everyone says “nye-oh-me.” Though I think “nah” may be more correct in that case as well (if you can call such things correct).

I am reminded of the ubiquitous bus shelter ads of some years ago that showed a photo of, say, Tina Turner, with the caption “One of the little old ladies who reads McCall’s.”
