The big camera shot of midsummer sunrise from Pinnacle Hill on the Malverns

Good midsummer morning from a peaceful Pinnacle Hill on the Malverns. Still don't have the place to myself but it'll be more peaceful than Midsummer Hill a mile or two to the south

After a somewhat testing week, to be out on #dartmoor in one of my favorite areas - Gidleigh Common - was food for the soul. The silence, the freshness, the #apricity. Here are a couple of handheld shots given the unsubtle B&W treatment from Rippator/Rival Tor

I'm not sure how this platform handles panoramas but here is my final shot of the Malverns from Saturday's glorious early morning walk.

First big camera shot from this morning on the Malvern Hills. I was looking elsewhere and turned around to see the sun breaking the horizon. It would have been rude not to try this

A phone snap from a beautiful but challenging morning on the Malvern Hills. Packing up now to get some breakfast. Here's hoping the "big camera" photos are up to scratch.

To kick off my 2025 account here's a shot from a walk on Woodbury Common in East Devon on my last day off work. It was a lovely morning to be out in the frost and largely subtle light conditions. I couldn't help taking this though, which is somewhat less subtle.

As someone who is a far better photographer than me often says, "the best camera is the one you have on you". Well, here are some phone snaps from #dartmoor this afternoon. Got above the murk and saw a weak #fogbow to boot.

Today is all about cooking prep for Christmas and a trip to Worcestershire and back to pick up mum. However, as sunrise is conveniently late and Woodbury Common is less than 10 minutes drive from home, I thought I'd nip up to one of my favourite trees for sunrise. #eastdevon #devon

It's the first day of the Christmas break for me and I fancied a coastal sunrise. It was a little muted and "meh" to be honest, or maybe my heart just wasn't in it. Anyway, after sun up, I went for a wander and found a new shot of the Budleigh trees.

The downside of storm Darragh is not being able to get out with the camera

The upside is that I can spend some time poring over recent shoots and finding some less obvious ones to post

Here's one from deep in the #riverdart valley on #dartmoor last month. I'm a bit of a fan of bare branches

I wasn't able to get out and play in the recent snow so, before autumn goes, two more from the River Dart on #dartmoor. I prefer the wider view (shot 1) but am distracted by the water pattern in the bottom right. Shot 2 doesn't have that but loses some of the beech trees.

Which is your favourite?

This is Simon's Lake sheet waterfall on #dartmoor. A surprisingly tricky place to photograph. I stumbled on this composition by accident when I noticed the ferns framing the falls when I moved my camera

An autumnal scene from last week on the River Dart, a little downstream from Dartmeet in #dartmoor.

Another from last week's walk in the #dartmoor woods. This little cascade on the River Plym caught my eye and I had to stop.

When you see a young beech tree showing off like this, you have to stop and take a record shot. Don't you?

(I just wish the larger tree on the right wasn't so dominant)

Going back a few weeks now to a misty morning in Worcestershire. The spire of St Gabriel's church in Hanley Swan is a focal point shortly after sunrise. Taken from Perseverance Hill on the Malverns.

A fascinating tree from a walk on the River Plym in #dartmoor

Oh @bsky.app, you were doing so well - but then I installed your iPad app.

I walked up the River Dart yesterday looking for new autumn photo opps. I emerged a broken man as the going was, erm, "rough". However, I have a few photos worth sharing. Here's the first. #dartmoor #autumn #devon

Autumn has finally arrived on #Dartmoor. I'm looking forward to getting out there again before all the colour has gone.

Well, this could be a little Marmitey I guess. I went to #Dartmoor at the weekend looking for autumnal colours. I found plenty of those but I am also a sucker for bare-leaved trees and these two, by Burrator Dam, stood out to me and just asked to be photographed.

Went for a good stomp on the moor today. This ain't right for November, surely?
