Some of us remember when Lindsay was. Also Koch sort of.

Disney’s real market loss since Wednesday close to 3 PM today was about $9.3 billion. $7.4 billion of their own MV and $1.9 billion gain that would be expected based on the overall market (S&P 500) gain of 1% over the same time period (Beta 0.9 if that helps). This is how your 401k managers think.

I seem to remember long ago afíliate contracts permitted networks to offer shows their affiliates refused to carry to other stations in that market. By long ago I mean the 1970s. Remember Julia and Maude anyone? This could be misremembering though.

Some libraries and educational institutions have Hoopla which is much the same and some have both.

This is so spot on I thought it had to be fake. It isn't. I've seen people referencing William Shirer's "Rise and Fall ..." but a better account, in my opinion, is Richard J. Evans "Coming of the Third Reich", "Third Reich in Power" and "Third Reich at War" (haven't got to the last one yet).

So some, but by no means all, of the savings due to solar energy will be reflected in lower GDP. But more efficient energy use will lead to more overall production/GDP.
June 9, 2025 at 11:01 PM
If it's an intermediate good used in the production of something else that is sold later then the value added at that stage of production will not reflect the value of the solar energy only to the extent that the price of the intermediate good is lower. Higher profit is counted in GDP.
June 9, 2025 at 11:01 PM
Let me try. To the extent that solar generation is for final consumer use, it's not reflected in GDP in the same way that household production (cooking, cleaning, child-care) is not if performed by family member or someone else who isn't paid but is if it is a paid service.

The question isn’t is the extra safety worth the extra cost but will the cost of more airline safety make enough parents decide to drive, which is much less safe. This is why economists (and former economists) are no fun at parties.
March 28, 2025 at 5:25 PM
With a car seat would clearly be safer, but:
1) does the extra cost of the ticket for the extra seat mean you’re more likely to drive?
2) If the additional seat is “free” to you then everyone else is paying more, thus being more likely to drive.
I don’t have the data on which effects dominates

I thought that captured the character perfectly. Three, maybe four lines of dialogue. That alone seems Emmy-worthy. Masterful.
