Coming Soon: MEAT BEES (CLASH Books ‘26)

Now Writing: 🕷️🏨💀
Gotta admit: MEAT BEE's cover is gnarly in the best possible way. Props to cover artist Joel Amat Güell and the fine folks at CLASH Books for giving my book the cover it deserves.

I hope the story moves readers as much as the cover does.

I love Halloween, and I love dressing up ridiculously at school. I was expecting everyone to know who I was today but, so far, it’s just been a lot of “Who are you supposed to be?”

When I tell them my daughter is a KPop Demon Hunter, some of them figure it out.

And, just like that, I’m 2/3 of the way through my current novel. I’m on track to be done by the end of 2025.

If you like creepy hotels and time traveling and spiders with knifes for legs, this Bud’s for you.

WHAT?! MEAT BEES is the most requested horror novel on NetGalley right now?! Who knows how long it'll be there, this is an AWESOME milestone, and I'm very proud.

Are you one of the readers who requested it? I hope you love it. Please let me know your thoughts, and thank you for reading!

Listen: I don't even know if anything I do at my job makes any sense to anyone any more, but I made this meme this morning to remind my Book Club kids of when our next meeting is, and it made me happy.

*nervous laughter* Uh, MEAT BEES is currently in the top five most requested horror novels right now on NetGalley with some other rad looking books.

I suppose that means you should request the ARC now while you can.

I wrote my spooky story "Can V. Should" when I was in grad school more than a decade ago. I feel old, but I also feel fortunate that Little Red Bird Publishing wanted it for volume two of their DARK SPECULATIONS anthology.

My short story "Myrna" reappears in Emby Press's anthology THE GHOST PAPERS: ARMS IN THE DARK with a slightly tweaked ending alongside Algernon Blackwood, Edith Wharton and Bram Stoker. Not sure how that happened, but I'm thrilled.

I wrote my 300-word micro-story "Another Miracle" specifically for Middle West Press's CRYPTIDS, KAIJU & CORN: POEMS AND MICRO-STORIES ABOUT MODERN MIDWEST MONSTERS. How could I not submit to this awesome-sounding anthology?

RE: The biomechanial spider in my current work-in-progress.

My subconscious mind has drawn inspiration from these two characters, unrelated except for how important they are to me.

How they combine to make a deadly monster that slices up characters and digs wormholes through time, *shrug emoji*

Okay, I guess I’m going to write this short story then, aren’t I?

Doing a little more editing this evening on the floor of my kids’ room while they go to bed.

I’ve found that make more progress if I write wherever and whenever I can. Sometimes, you have to just plow through distractions and force yourself to keep going, you know?

I'm not really a "meme guy," but I was moved by Truth to make this meme yesterday. My wife said it was funny, but my newspaper students didn't even laugh, other than by the fact that I had made a meme.

Inspired by a true story.

Why, yes, I do have a favorite Pokemon card. And, no, it’s not a fancy EX or V card. It’s just Mimikyu from a Trick or Trade pack.

I love that, because of its ability, it can slowly drain the fanciest EX or V Pokemon without taking a hit. I also love that it’s a humble, common card.

A student made me a flag. What the heck?

During this time of year, teaching can be so frustrating. It can also surprise you in the best ways.

About a year ago, I had the sudden urge to do something that I had resisted for a long time—publish a book on my own.

Last spring, I began the process of editing FRIDAY NIGHT AT HUMBLE HOUSE, the first full-length manuscript I ever wrote, and figuring out how to get it out there.

I'm glad I did.

Snuck in some more writing this morning. I am channeling my inner fury into this story.

Not sure why I’m posting these videos. Maybe because it helps show what my writing process actually looks like. I dunno.

I am so excited to announce my YA novel FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT will be published by Inked in Gray Press in 2027.

This book is my ode to punk-rock and the power of music. It’s also a book I was convinced would never see the light of day. I’m glad Inked In Gray saw something special in this story.

Tomorrow, I get to share some exciting book news.

Today, however, I will continue posting strange pictures from ShowBiz Pizza. My memories of the original pizzaplex are as faded as this picture, but I still remember Billy Bob Brockali — and Fatz Geronimo with his band the Rock-afire Explosion.

You may need these coupons on Tuesday.

(Guys, this is as good as my book marketing gets, so strap in…)

The 13 year old and I are trying something new—matcha boba tea—inspired by some new cards we scored.

Yes, we are dorks, but proudly dorks.

Had a friend remind me of how amazing The (international) Noise Conspiracy was recently.

When I was in high school, they were one of the most important bands in my life.

A NEW MORNING, CHANGING WEATHER is a masterpiece, and I wish more people talked about it.

It’s Friday, which means I’m watching another scary movie with my teen. This week, it’s ANNABELLE. I wish it resembled the real-life story of the Annabelle doll a little more, but that’s okay. Still lots of spooky vibes and nostalgia.

I published a story!

It's just a little non-fiction shorty, a story about when I was a teenager, but I'm proud of it. Writing it helped me make sense of something that felt important when I was young.

Head over to the Amazine to read "Drummer" using the link in my bio...
