One of my next projects - a muslin cap from La Mode Illustrée, 1861, number 48. Stitching helps to keep me sane during these stressful times.
Greyscale drawing from an 1861 fashion magazine of a side view of the head and shoulders of a woman. She wears a sheer cap over an arrangement of braids. The cap has a pleated frill around the head, edged with narrow lace with a ribbon similarly pleated and tied under teh cap at the back. Two 'streamers' edged with narrow lace hang down from the side-back of the cap. The woman is also wearing a close-fittin bodice with a white collar, trimmed with a ribbon bow at the centre front of the collar.

An outfit from a year or so back, inspired (loosely) by an extant pale green linen skirt and bodice in the Armidale Folk Museum. The original was for a very young woman. Which I am no longer. More info about the original outfit at: stitchinghistory.com/2023/01/1900... #dresshistory
A white lady with grey hair wearing a lavender coloured Edwardian outfit. The blouse has a high neck with white lace trim, pin tucks on the centre front and a row of lace on each side. The sleeves are full and gathered in at the elbow. The skirt is mostly plain but has box pleats at the side fronts from knee to floor held in place at the pleat with lace edging. She wears a lavender coloured belt that dips to a point in the front and has a triangular lace applique. She is standing in front of a plain beige curtain.

Side-front views of two mannequins in cream close-fitting bustle dresses of 1884 with drapery at hips, rows of satin decorations and pleats. On left is my re-creation, on right is the original dress. The satin decorations on the original dress is closer to the colour of the main dress, and slightly smaller proportionally. There is another draped piece flaring from the centre back that is gently pleated at the sides and attached towards the bottom of the skirt. Both dresses are worn over a small bustle which enhances the effect of the drapery. The skirt has rows of satin decorations and pleats. On left is my re-creation, on right is the original dress.
