4/x) While his charts might not be as fun to look at, Engels was demonstrating the localized effects of poverty on life expectancy back in 1842. Instead of giving credit where it’s due, the social sciences have been on their back foot for decades, due to the red scare. Look where that got us.

1/x) Interesting Axios article “Chicago tries to close life expectancy gap”. As Trump attempts to dismantle the notion of civil service, keep in mind that there is a “grain of truth” to the fact that the social sciences are truly inspired by Engels’ scientific socialism.
