This is a weakly held conviction, but I think this is wrong on the evidence. It’s just that to move the birthrate up far enough for natalists to be happy, the financial compensation to parents would have to be far higher than what anyone has tried so far. It would be deeply unpopular.

Why would that be your takeaway? The whole reason they do these studies is try to see if it’s possible to take people off without them gaining back the weight. Same with statins.

Personally I’m done with type 3 too: said something problematic and now they are the devil incarnate. Not saying some things can’t be considered beyond the pale, of course, just that that list seems a bit large.

It’s more like 40%.

This is very much not my experience, especially not when you have to take meetings. A 2-3 year old just needs frequent attention.

Or in the case of residential areas, whether people have given up on sweeping in front of their door or not.

Maybe you’ve been gone too long. Garbage collection costs have gone up over the years (according to the “polluter pays” principle), and the littering problem has grown with it. But yeah, baseline matters. Though my first assumption is usually that clean areas have more street sweeping.

I’m Flemish and millennial/gen z littering is definitely still a thing. I don’t know where you hung out, but Antwerp certainly has its fair share of on-street litter.

Hoe zou je met het invoeren van een kilometer niét eindigen met een hogere belasting? Dan moet je al de energiekosten drukken of btw laten dalen.
