It’s narrowly saved by Luton (not far away): described by my Manchester-reared dad as “a northern town transplanted whole to the south of England”

My niece is in 1st yr uni. Don’t know how often her mum is in touch with her but I know she is part of multiple parent’s social media groups for the relevant college (just as she was on parents WhatsApp group at school). Thank fuck my mother never could do that - I’d have fled the country to escape!

So how would that have worked for the thousands of people who live in the borderlands. The article constantly refers to Londoners but makes no mention of Home Counties residents whose nearest shops, work, entertainment, school friends are in the outer boroughs.

I was lucky to be taught history by one of those ‘hooligans’: Laszlo Peter.

He had been appointed to the revolutionary committee charged with the supervision and cataloguing of the archives of the Ministry of the Interior. Got out of the country after the revolution

That would require modern capitalism to understand that training is an investment, not a cost. Instead they moan that if they train people they’ll take their skills and leave.

Eh? ID might help to prevent kids being able to access stuff that is not designed for them. Whether or not they are a child who would try to access it.

Because 13-16 year olds can be working? (With limits alongside full-time education).

Why would they react? They’re 4 years out from an election. Reacting each & every time Reform says something gives their crackpot ideas an authority they don’t deserve. And the Govt can react to Reform in Parlt: they don’t need war by press release.

Having been away for the past 24 hours I’ve just spent an enjoyable hour catching up with the entire journey from Luxembourg to here. Following closely on Apple Maps at the same time. This is great (and a brilliant distraction from all the 💩 that’s going down in UK & US today. Thank you!

How strange that such an essential service as boats up and down the coast should only have started (or even been mapped) in the mid 19th century. I guess steam made it possible. Wonder what they did before that.

It’s close to the Tower of London so there will be a ton of neighbourhood heritage considerations to throw in - possibly a listed feature or two. And then there’s the infamous London flood plain…right next to the Thames
