I’m not a lapsed Christian, as such, but I am a Christian who feels no strong pull back to Church since evangelicalism became synonymous with Trumpism. The Petrine verse about ‘the habit of some’ still haunts me, but not enough to overwhelm my abandonment.

We need to find common ground in embracing freedom AND giving grace. The whole point of abstaining from things I can do but choose not to is to keep my brother or sister from feeling judged and becoming bitter. I’ll try to remember to use a ‘they’ pronoun because I love you, I still think it’s dumb.

Values, whether they be codified in the teachings of Jesus or the bill of rights, are passé. Repentance is passé. The electorate wants ‘straight talk’ but is intolerant of personal sacrifice unless it is tied to a tangible benefit. Attack the lies. Demand maturity and promise truth.
