This is shocking and bad but, the real meaningful insight lies in what happens towards the end of the year.
If the ice doesn't recover like it has in previous years, that's a strong signal that this isn't seasonal, and so the collapse of civilisation has been fast forwarded a lot.

Thank you for pointing this out, I've seen far too many climate scientists who simply refuse to confont the geopolitical, and human psychological factors preventing us from doing anything more significant.
We humans have a strong track record of doing things are harmful to us in the long run.
