That’s a super valid fear! I’ve never here since 2018 and (knock on wood) only had one tropical storm pass by. Every year we’re ready, live away from the ocean and have a generator. Anything cat 3 or above and I’ll fly to the USA with my toddler. It is more expensive to shop here, but no income tax

The Caribbean island nations are so different from one another, it’s hard to make a pro and con list that covers the entire region. I assume your response is to the Caribbean yeah? Which islands have you looked at specifically. Some are tied to the EU which is a nice benefit

I have family in Recife so that’s where I started but I didn’t speak Portuguese. It’s beautiful and historic but a really rough place to live long term if you don’t speak the language. I learned with time, but ended up moving to the south of Brazil. I love the diversity of activity in São Paulo

I’ve enjoyed the Caribbean, and it’s close enough to the USA that I can still visit with family every so often

I think it depends on your comfort with languages and climate as well as resources (including professional skill set)
