10. Using AI in your craft is just the tipping point when it comes to establishing ethics in modern paganism. Practice how you want, but there are some things we can't let go on. Don't call yourself these terms and titles if you can't honor the earth and ignore the harm from your behaviors. #endrant

9. A lot of people choose these alternative paths and come from Christianity. But they never deconstruct or unlearn, so they come into pagan spaces with their cognitive dissonance and bullshit excuses for being a dishonorable human. What may be a trend to you, is very important to me.

7. In terms of #norsepaganism, #heathernry and #honor especially, what's honorable about claiming AI art as your own? What's honorable about rituals you did nothing to create? The answer is nothing. It's not honorable, at all.

6. Another argument was that we don't have a choice, we have to move along with it now that AI is here. The simple option is to just refrain from using these systems and tools. Go back to the old ways of our ancestors and true artistic expression. Duh.

5. Now coming back to harm. One argument from that group I got banned from was that #AI doesn't harm. Well, outside of climate harm, here is your proof that it does. From warfare and using AI to find targets, to our youth.

4. As we head more into the #AI age, it's important to understand its implications. Even using AI tools to aid in productivity comes with a cost. As #pagans, #animists, and land stewards how can you claim to care about the earth while engaging in that harm yourself?

3. From a spiritual standpoint, there's nothing magical about an AI generated ritual prompt, poem, or deity offering. It's likely plagiarized from someone who has posted these things online and worked hard on them. In AI, there's no authenticity. The magic is within you. Use it right.

2. AI images are produced using the hard work of real artists. Not great. Also, AI image generation uses a disproportionate amount of energy compared to text-generated AI. All AI requires data centers, that require energy to cool, thus taking resources away and contributing to climate shifts.
Making an image with generative AI uses as much energy as charging your phone
This is the first time the carbon emissions caused by using an AI model for different tasks have been calculated.

1. AI art is not art. It's not. Don't argue. Did you pick up a brush, a pen, or other medium? No, you gave it keywords and let it do it for you. My artist friend @kellymckernan.bsky.social talks about how AI has impacted her as an artist for the worst.

Also - Thanksgiving is a colonizer holiday. "Oh the pilgrims arrived here and all was hunky dory" you say, as you stand on Turtle Island, i.e. land that does not belong to you.
