As I enter my internship year I’m appalled that APA no longer thinks it’s important to mandate an inclusive training environment.
B.3: The following statements will not be reviewed for compliance: The program has made systematic, coherent, and long-term efforts to attract and retain interns and faculty/staff from diverse backgrounds into the program. Consistent with such efforts, it acts to ensure a supportive and encouraging learning environment appropriate for the training of individuals are diverse and the provision of training opportunities for a broad spectrum of individuals. Further, the program avoids any actions that would restrict program access on grounds that are irrelevant to success in graduate training, either directly or by imposing significant and disproportionate burdens on the basis of the personal and demographic characteristics set forth in the definition of cultural diversity.

APPIC MATCH NEWS --- As many of you are aware, a U.S. federal hiring freeze was announced earlier this week. Whether or not psychology internship and postdoctoral positions with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Bureau of Prisons (BoP) will be affected is, for the moment, not clear. We recognize that this announcement comes at a particularly inconvenient time, and raises significant concerns for many of you during an already-anxious period. APPIC is closely monitoring this situation and is communicating with the VA and other federal agencies in order to gather information and to develop specific guidance and instructions.
