She heard the front door fly open with a crash. “Fuck fuck fuck!” Cody bellowed. She frowned and hurried out to see what he was fucking up this time. Her jaw dropped at the sight that waited for her—Cody, wet with rain and as disheveled as she’d ever seen him, her backpack slung over his shoulder, and a yowling, screaming, burlap sack in his hand. “What’re you doing to my cat?” she yelled. “Leave him alone! Don’t eat him!” Cody stared at her with wide, crazy eyes. “I’m not going to eat him,” he growled through clenched teeth. “You said you wanted him so I got him. What the fuck else do you want from me, witch?”

He was trying to figure out if what happened last night was real or a dream. The fact that he’d woken up with her dark hair splayed across his chest, her thin fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt, was pretty compelling evidence that it was real. Now I gotchu right where I want you. He cringed. It was unbearable that he’d spoken to her that way.

At the risk of being too weird (even for me) I just really want to share that this is possibly my favorite thing anyone has ever put in a review for 1 of my books (v high bar, since the ppl who review my books are so often beyond lovely and/or hilarious). This is an ARC review for Trespasser btw
Highlighted text reads I noted that the author gave negligible detail on why the world was post-apocalyptic nor on what had happened but just let the characters tell their story, which may not appeal to some but was great for me
