A companion to the @brief_fiction account, on which I share links to (and maybe talk about) content other people have created.

One could follow a link offered by somebody, and save the site he found on Stumbleupon, oneself.

That sort of activity was known as "social bookmarking."

As far as I know, nothing like it exists, today.

Having been introduced to those sites, some of us would then use their blogging platform to write posts about the sites we liked, which our followers could read. We'd share and discuss our finds.

Bookmarking became a collective activity.

Simple thumbs up or thumbs down. Their algorithm then learned from ones replies, and tailored its selections to be more in keeping with one's likes. It was fun, and it introduced one to a lot of sites that one probably would have never found on one's own.

Regrettably, you can't, now. It fell victim to managerial egotism, self-destructed and then, a few years later, was shut down. But back before it was ruined, one would click on a button, their software would randomly select a site and then you'd get to say whether or not you liked it.

"I would like to hear what you mean by 'social bookmarking'."

Have you ever heard of either of these sites? Diigo? Stumbleupon?

"but, if you can put whatever it was behind you,"

Easily. Everything got worked out, and there are no hard feelings left at my end.

"I'm not quite sure what happened to you with BlueSky mods,"

My best guess, at this point, is that I ran into a badly programmed AI that the staff has since either repaired or turned off.

That's the only time I've ever been a gangster. I was coming down a black ice-coated alley, and some psycho chose to accelerate toward under the worst stopping conditions possible, while I miraculously managed to scramble out of the way of his oncoming car.

After which it was go time.

I guess I'll have to keep looking to give proper attribution for the photo above.

Did I search under Maxpixel and found these three reviews

www.sitejabber.com/reviews/maxp...

which share a troubling accusation - that Maxpixel was a scraper site, one that stole its content from other sites. If so, sorry, I didn't know that.

Hi. I WAS going to explain the concept of social bookmarking for the benefit of anybody who might not have heard of it, but I just had the bizarre experience of seeing the bleets you currently see below false flagged as spam, apparently by a mod, and of having to appeal those false flaggings.

I am not amused. I guess the appeal was approved (without comment from the guilty parties), because I can see this account from my other account, but I'm still angry about this.

The good news is that it is Saturday, the best day of the week for getting past one's anger.

I'm about to shower, get dressed and head out. Into a suburb. Yeah, that's just sad. I'm going to have to do better, next weekend. Or this week, for that matter.

One of the perks of self-employment: you can schedule your own weekends, so maybe this one will start on Tuesday.

Later. If the petty harassment by the rogue employee is over, now. He was a rogue employee, right, Jack?

I'd hate to think that what I just saw had anything to do with company policy.

I'll then stick in black rectangles as dividers, so people can tell where one essay ends and another begins, or when I'm just not posting an essay, at all.

As a courtesy to the reader, I'd creating this little backroom, where I can post my blog post-like bleetstorms as replies to the bleets you see here, and then use the re-posting function to make them appear in a more pleasant, top-to-bottom format.
November 23, 2024 at 10:39 PM
Sometimes, something I write won't fit in a single bleet (or whatever these will be called), so I'll write a tweetstorm (or bleetstorm). The problem is that when one does that, the system tends to display them in reverse chronological order, and that can be hard to read.
