The gap in that infrastructure:

UAlberta folks and anyone else near campus: rally on the Main Quad in support of Alberta's K-12 teachers at noon on Wednesday. See you there!

Look at this shiny new board (and all the seats are filled!).

Also feeling pretty confident that Linda Lindsay is going to hold her lead.

At least 15,000 people out yesterday at the rally to support striking Alberta teachers. It was incredible to get on a train packed with people wearing red for ed and see how many came to show they care about public schools.

And of course, in true teacher spirit, the band geeks were there.

Here's Nelson's post. There are two candidates in common between her list and mine, probably because she hasn't realized those candidates will also stand strong for inclusive public education.

Try the Connect Care link. Nobody can book the COVID vaccine using the tool on the landing page.

Oh lol, now apparently they're going to try to define pornography, a topic which is famously simple* and has never been the subject of multiple Supreme Court cases*, in such a way that material that is completely legal for youth to acquire is included.

*Sarcasm, obviously.

This is disingenuous. The only public statement from the board on this was in May, prior to the Ministerial Order, and there's not a peep after that. The board has consistently failed to speak up on the issues that matter.

Adding to the "well, so much for EPSB standing up for kids" news today, apparently they've also sent out a form requiring confirmation of biological sex to play on girls' teams. Yegwave is a dodgy source, but I've heard confirmation elsewhere that teachers have been told they must use this form.

More of the list. It's truly shocking to realize just what this will mean.
August 28, 2025 at 5:24 PM
Well, the list of books being banned from EPSB is appalling. And it's very likely that an author on this list will get their other works pulled too, especially in the absence of teacher librarians.

There are books on this list that changed my life. This is what the UCP is taking away from kids.

Unfortunately, they seem to have a more restrictive list that doesn't include smokers/former smokers. From www.alberta.ca/coronavirus-...

This level of civilian death is in the range of recognized genocides that have taken place in my lifetime. It's absolutely horrifying that world leaders continue to stand by and wring their hands, but it's also sadly in keeping with other genocides. Never again happens a lot, actually.

This is what good accomodation looks like. CSSE provides a quiet space — it accommodates ND folks but welcomes everyone. George Brown set this one up with individual tables and chairs, comfortable sofas, soft music, dim light, and abstract visuals. It is a subtle sensory room and a calming space.

Well, that's fun. The glass part fell off my passenger side mirror while I was driving on the freeway.

Good thing the forecast includes lots of nice cycling weather.

One of the greatest ways to begin the day. Yes, this is this morning.

I don't remember ever seeing a media release of this nature from a deputy minister. It is really astonishing to see this type of comment made in public by a member of the public service.

Marcia Hole (Ward C) just announced her resignation from EPSB. I know this took serious courage, and I applaud her for choosing the difficult but ethical path.

This leaves just 6 out of 9 seats filled on the board, meaning that yet another trustee will have to take on serving two wards.

The average salary for an education support worker in Alberta is $34,500. The average wage of an educational assistant is just $26,000.

EPSB trustees make $39,353 per year and may work as little as 10 hours a week. And that's before things like additional per diems, car allowance, expense account…

Last summer, I spent 10 days in Brittany, which included visiting some WWII sites. It was my first encounter in person with the history of the Resistance, and it hit home how much it cost. I think of this when people brag about how tough Canadians are and how much we would fight back if invaded.

Well, despite their apology and claim that they are fixing the problem, Loblaws stores are still cheating people on the price of meat. I bought this package at the Kingsway Superstore in Edmonton this week.

This means I overpaid by $1.18 for this package.
