Depressing AF. The biggest surprise to me is TOP (or Opportunity) being down - their new leader's excellent from what I've seen and she's had quite a bit of publicity.

Yeah, that was incredibly frustrating. You're a minister in govt so a) don't drink and drive; b) don't have undeclared conflicts of interest. It really shouldn't have been difficult. They fucked it up for everyone.

Yet their undoing at the last election was the narrative they failed to deliver, having "over-promised" in areas such as child poverty & housing before being side-railed by Covid. Campaigning on transformative policies is great until every media outlet and RW shock-jock pounces when it's difficult.

True. But unfortunately any hope of winning the election depends on capturing that annoying centrist vote, and Hipkins knows TPM is currently anathema to that lot... meanwhile, NZF is likely to once again be kingmaker. It's shit but what's he to do?

Yeah, I'm personally kinda over it. Just like in the US - there's more wrath directed at the Dems for being too tentative than the actual fascists in power.

What's really galling is the fact she can talk about National "values" and her hope for NZ's future with a straight face, having slashed jobs and public services, engineered a recession, and been part of the most benefit-bashing, racist, cruel government since the 80s.

OMG, it has been literal crickets 🦗 and it's maddening! It must be a strategy of Labour's as surely they've agreed on what the comms should be? Are they worried they'll be called out on over-egging the initial contract if they're too overtly critical? If so, they haven't read the room at all.

After he moved to Welly in the early 90s, my big bro sent me Abbey Road on cassette and I listened to it for the very first time at night on my walkman. I was 13 and it's one of my enduring musical memories. I've loved that album ever since.

Why is it seemingly so difficult for other Labour MPs to call the govt out on its bullshit like this? They simply do not fact check the cretins enough, either in the house or when talking to journalists.
