BBC invited Kelvin McKenzie on BBC breakfast to talk about ethics

"Unless your editorial intent is explicitly to explore ethical failure through the eyes of those who perpetrated it, it’s a reputational risk with limited public-interest upside"

Red poppy trivia:

The fund is the Earl Haig Fund (now operating through Poppyscotland or the Royal British Legion).

The factory is Lady Haig’s Poppy Factory, where the poppies themselves are made.

"...along with 8 members of the Democratic caucus, many of whom are moderates"

Implies that some of these Democrat senators are not moderate

Does this mean that they are extreme, radical, fanatical & intemperate?

How can this be called objective reporting?

I thought it would be useful to provide the clipped version and the original

It was a big mistake for BBC Panorama to do this. Very unprofessional.

Panorama has had a long history of 'crash & burn' where 'investigative reporting' was based on exaggeration and polemic

Headline associating Liberal Democrats with electoral disaster is biased

Overwhelmingly our electoral results for the last 5 years have been holds/gains in Parliament & Councils

Right now Andrew, you need to be careful to keep editorial standards high

Unconscious bias?
Conscious bias?

All I know is that the BBC website editor today chose the picture on the left to illustrate immigration reform, not the picture on the right (Which is the way that 98% of immigrants arrive in UK)

A sad anecdote. Being on such a low dose, it is possible that she stopped eating regularly and underlying conditions did not give her resilience. But I'm speculating just like the article does.

One person is run over by a London bus every 6 weeks but we don't see have moral panics about that

I'm interested in fact checking headlines in the media

Quite often they will come to a particular number by adding together lots of other numbers and then get lots of clicks

Once you look into the detail things are a bit different

OK

Have it your way:

The Northumberland town that claims to be the geographical centre of the UK is Haltwhistle. This claim is based on it being the midpoint of the longest north-south meridian across Britain

I attached two maps. The first one is direct commutable trains to London within 2 hours. The second is the same but to Birmingham

London is more convenient to travel to for more people then the geographic centre of the country

Not sure why the English get blamed for breakdown of the negotiations with Michael Collins when the UK Prime Minister was Welsh!

It was the British empire, not the English empire (and the Scots were enthusiastically in on it as well as the Welsh)
