That money was in 2023 less than 1% of the total federal budget. The benefit to us for that USAID funding is that $1 spent now on preventative measures saves $10 of defense later without USAID if those same areas become sources of attacks against us locally and abroad.

Not that simple. I can point to one charity in Uganda, Mercy for Life Africa, where kids and adults got their HIV meds through a local Kinshasa NGO-run clinic that received funds from USAID. No more meds now for those people.

I'm currently scrambling to replace HIV-med funds for a non-profit I support that wood-chippy torpedoed when he attacked USAID. In Uganda now, I have learned from someone in country that there are clinics now with thousands of people in line waiting for the meds. Getting treatment takes days.
