Musician, cyclist, takes lots of photos, sometimes gets political. When I'm not in Devon, I'm in France in my little bit of paradise. https://www.facebook.com/unanglaisendiois/
As I'm still in a locked-out-of-Facebook hinterland, here are some photos I took of the absolutely extraordinary winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year, Ryan Wang, playing Rach 2 Piano Concerto with Devon Philharmonic yesterday evening. Deserved standing ovation.

WTAF? I've just had my FB account suspended for some unspecified infraction. The only 'appeal' was to send a selfie, and if that fails, there's no further appeal, and the loss of everything from 18 years of FB: tens of thousands of photos, nearly 1000 friends, 5800 followers on the French Page.

A lovely Teign Valley walk along the river and then back along the Hunters Path near Castle Drogo... not a lot of colour left, but my friend Andy, his faithful hound Tripp and I enjoyed November warmth and splendid views.

An absolutely stonking night last night with the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Music For Youth Schools Prom. Suffice to say that our young musicians did Devon proud!

It was a Budleigh pasty kinda day... would have been rude to not to, with the weather being clement enough for shorts in November!

Musical musings: I've got my orchestral F trumpet out ready for a play-through of Mahler's 2nd Symphony later this month. It was made by Dotzauer for me in the late 1990s, and is a lovely thing to play, if challenging! I once did the Mahler on it, in a complete concert performance.

Nice day for a cooked breakfast ride to the Ruby Red Café at Exe Valley Farm Shop at Thorverton. I'll save you the photo of the delicious breakfast, on the basis that you know what one looks like.

First time the two Ribble bikes have been out together.

Just asked Copilot... so if that's the case, Enedis should know.

Just in case you'd like to correct it, there's a tiny typo in that post, Jon - 'axel' for 'axle'.

A better day today: weather less grey and damp, and no puncture on my way via Turf Lock to Dawlish Warren for a pasty.

And it's still mild enough that I've not had to turn any heating on at home. Expect a profits warning from Octopus Energy.

The puncture fairy visited today. As did rain. Again. Ho hum.

But it's still better to be on a bike.

Haha. Must be something in the air.

Will the exododus be declared extinct in NYC? Or is it only the largest one that's going to be ignited?

Didn't even know it could be an adverb. (There is 'aloofly' too, but that's a later invention.) I think the standard usage is "rather aloof".

They could also check the stats.

The evening commute has turned into a murky affair... but the evenings will start getting lighter in just six weeks!

Was it Dickens... or Ruskin?

Cookery corner: I was hoping to go out for a bike ride, but it's remained resolutely grey, damp & windy, so instead I cooked a chicken with leeks & mushrooms in a white sauce thingy, to go with pasta after work. Looks OK.

The heating's still off, and it's warm enough for a gentle stroll around Topsham in shorts to take in some fresh air, sunshine and autumnal colours 🍂😃

Perhaps because reserving the general usage to the central definition as found in the OED is useful: whilst of course victims of mass stabbings experience terror, 'terrorism' as a term is linked to political ends in normal usage.

Just asked Copilot... any use?

What's not to like about an autumnal ride along Devon lanes to find a lemon & ginger slice at Exe Valley Farm Shop and a Warren's Cornish pasty in Exeter?

That said, when the copper telephone network is removed over the next few years, some of the worse street-level jumbles will disappear. (These are all from my small local town when I'm in France.)

I think Holland is the outlier, not least as it's so small. France's cabling (for instance) is nearly all above ground, and is a mess. But its population density (c.4x as dense in Holland) and the distances involved play a large part.

You might enjoy Leeds... the Victorians knew how to do them too.
