♿ Cane / wheelchair-user & chronic pain-haver since 11/2023
Update: was able to bike to eat lunch. Slowly starting to increase the distance I can e-bike. Still a long way from recovering enough to ride my regular bike though!

Also it looks weird when I roll up on my e-bike then get out my cane to walk. E-biking is easier on my foot than walking though!

Maybe its the medication I've been given by my rheumatologist (+physical therapy), but I went from being unsure about riding a bike ever again to riding my pedal-assist e-bike for an errand in ~3 weeks.

I still walk with a cane & getting on/off the bike is hard, but once I'm on it I can ride a bit.

bluesky now has 13 mil users so let’s introduce ourselves!

I'm a research prof working to better ensure that the way we transition towards clean energy provides tangible benefits for people.

I used to bike a lot until a year ago when I lost most of my ability to walk. Also a lifelong Star Trek fan

I'm not in the market for a new EV (and won't be for a long time), but since I'm a part-time wheelchair user as of last November - when the time comes the VW ID Buzz looks pretty promising.

Electric and lots of room on the inside for the family & to fit my wheelchair w/o folding / taking it apart.

I hope more of the people from that community show up here. At one time it had a lot of cool ideas and potential for collaboration.

An idea that ended up as a full journal paper written by Eric Hittinger and I started as a discussion we had on there!

Wonder if the same will happen here eventually.

Totally agreed. When I was posting at the Other Place, I had some similar / related thoughts.

Although, this last week my wife, dad, and stepmom did take me to the Huntington Gardens in San Marino which was a very nice day out hanging out with people in-person and being away from screens.

When times are tough, community is critical.

Nowadays my wheelchair is the only thing I ride. The uncertainty of whether I'll recover back to walking normally is what eats at me the most. The doctors I've seen so far don't know fully what the root cause of my mobility loss is though, so more tests and trying different things are happening. 2/

It's nice outside. I miss having normal mobility and being able to enjoy being outside where I please. Some of you know that I used to really enjoyed biking.

My bikes are sitting flat in the garage and haven't been ridden since late last October, shortly before I lost most of my ability to walk. 1/
