Epstein emails drop and we act shocked—like the powerful haven’t thrived on secrecy since Pharaoh. The real scandal is our numbness. Scripture says nothing stays hidden. People shaped by the Gospel shouldn’t need leaks to tell the truth or resist empire’s version of justice.

Many of my brothers and sisters in Christ participated in the Lord’s Supper/Communion/the Eucharist today. It reminds us of the sacrificial love and grace of Christ. Jesus picked love of neighbor over power. It is a moment that calls into question whose ethic we embody.

If we, as Christians, continue to affirm that Jesus is both fully God and fully human, it’s worth reflecting on why some perceive empathy and love for strangers as sinful. Doesn’t this mindset subtly undermine the truth of Jesus’ full humanity and what it truly means to follow Him?

I am saddened to learn that Richard B. Hays has gone to be with God. His Moral Vison of the New Testament will go down as his greatest academic achievement. Well done Mr. Hays! Thank you for your scholarship and example.
