Another random thought I had to help bring players in. I'd try to be pretty active in the recruiting of people. If you see some people even glance your way, then I'd be "Orcs have breached the gates of Minas Tirith! We need brave heroes to help save the city."

I think it'll help break the ice.

Another thought. Do you have more problems getting people when the table is empty or when there's a few open spots? I'm assuming it's harder when it's empty. You could possibly have a friend come be a player for a bit. Like a crap table, if people are shouting and having fun, it'll draw more in.

A "play as Legolas in the Battle of Helms Deep" or "Blast Venin as Violet Sorrengail". I've always had the best success roping people in when I'm like "see this cool thing you like, you get to do that now". I think I'd also run very rules-lite versions of whatever ttrpg you're playing.

I'm also not a marketing expert, but I agree with @evilgaz.bsky.social about making the banner more explicit about what you're running. What kind of events are you running this at? I'd maybe try to be a bit more targeted. For example, if you think the audience will be fantasy book readers then have

the larger canvas size made this much more difficult. Not in love with it, but that's how things go.

I really love the hero slot system. It allows me to just have stat blocks ready and make encounters on the fly super quickly.

Yeah, I like this idea a lot. Though it depends on what exactly they're going up against. Also, depending on your players, you'll probably need to constantly encourage them to find out of the box solutions during the combat. Or they might just get very frustrated.

I would almost always award an actual item instead of these moving forward though. There's other fun things the follower could be working on.

My players got the Foesense Lens recipe from part 1 of the Delian Tomb. They've actually really liked having their follower roll to progress. I added a few extra travel days for them to get more rolls. But without a follower they would never complete it. Even so, it'll take a while.

Also, I liked the cats and that they can vaguely communicate with the Wit even though Fitz isn't bonded to them. It just feels very cat-like.

Can even used pre-gened or create ones that you think your players would like. My players haven't looked back.
