Not only New England Republicans, but Mid-Atlantic Republicans, too. In the late '70s and early '80s, I and everyone else I knew would often vote split-ticket when Republicans fielded better candidates.

That was my thought, too. If there is a valid privilege to assert, the DOJ's attorney should have said, "We believe any documents relating to prosecutorial decisions are privileged, and we'll provide a privilege log if necessary."

Yes. And, if you have hundreds of millions of dollars parked in offshore bank accounts, a full blown economic depression is even better than a recession when it comes to picking up assets for five or ten cents on the dollar.

At age 18, I was an elected Democratic Committeeman in PA and, during college, I worked as a legislative assistant to my State Representative. Of course, that was in the late '70s post-Watergate era when many younger men and women were determined to get involved in politics to help clean things up.

I, too, remember the days when you could find reasonable Republicans in the New England/Mid-Atlantic area. Although I always identified as a Democrat, I would sometimes vote Republican. My theory is that many people around my age were driven into the Republican Party by the Iran hostage crisis.

Yes. The massive additional cost of removing all of the sensitive, classified hardware and software is something I haven't seen anyone else mention when writing about this issue.
