To be fair, I thought I would find that annoying, but having come from Los Angeles where it can take an hour to drive ~5 miles during rush hour, I don't mind anymore lol. And as someone who enjoys distance running, being able to breathe clean air is also an added bonus.

Sixth, we're within driving distance to Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville, where all major musical acts come through. Catching NIN in Tampa last month and being 10 feet from Trent Reznor was fun. 9/

Fifth, and related to our natural beauty: manatees! November - March is manatee season here, and you can find them either on the coasts (Crystal River is my favorite spot to view them) or sometimes in the local rivers if they come further inland. 7/

Personally, I'm a fan of kayaking in the springs, including the runs near Silver Springs State Park in Ocala. 6/

Fourth, the natural beauty here is spectacular. Within an hour from campus, you can find the world's most beautiful freshwater springs, including Itchetucknee Springs State Park, known for swimming, cave diving, and tubing. 5/

Third, the computing resources here are outstanding. UF recently launched the fastest university supercomputer in the country, HiPerGator 4.0. Chris Malachowsky, a UF alumnus and the co-founder of Nvidia, helped fit and build the newest version. alligator.org/article/2025... 4/

First, we have an excellent Psychology department, with collegial and productive colleagues, and lots of opportunity for on-campus collaborations. There's also ample opportunities for seed funding to start new, collaborative projects on campus. 2/
