I thought it sounded odd at first too. "Typal" literally means, "pertaining to a type". So, I think it makes sense and just takes some getting used to.

Typal replaces tribal when talk about a deck archetype. "Elf typal" instead of "Elf tribal".

Also, when blocking with a band, I discovered that Trample is a may ability. You band-block a 10/10 trample with a 1/1 deathtouch and a 1/1 vanilla. You can assign all 10 damage to the vanilla. The 10/10 and your 1/1 vanilla die, and you and the desthtoucher take 0.
