I couldn’t agree more. Why play in 1/2 empty NFL stadiums, on artificial turf, in 95 heat, in a league that has convoluted playoffs, a ‘Leagues Cup’ that nobody cares about, etc. I know there are a few MLS teams with great fans and facilities, but it would still be a huge step down for Müller.

Derek- as a commentator, are you required to use the corporate name? It wasn’t until my first visit to Frankfurt that I learned it was really the Waldstadion. I only knew it by its corporate name from watching broadcasts here in the US.

Derek, I enjoyed your column as always. I sometimes think that the league’s emphasis on the BVB/Bayern games helps to reinforce the notion to casual (US) fans that German football is always a 2 horse race. Of course devoted Bundesliga fans know better. What are your thoughts?

Who actually complains about this? Every top euro league has most/all of their games available via steaming. Premier League-Peacock, Serie A- Paramount +, La Liga, Bundesliga, Eredivisie & Jupiler of ESPN+. I love the availability of choices!

Another reminder that football in this country is bush league. Instead of spending $100/ticket & $20/beer to watch mediocre play at a 1/2 empty stadium, we prefer to save our $ and go to Germany every year and enjoy the game as it should be.
