Maria Mercedes Ponce de Leon works on gender and crime. Using detailed data on 911 calls from Seattle and quasi-experimental variation in the gender of responding officers, she finds that female officers are more effective in handling domestic violence.

Aarushi Kalra experiments with the algorithm for a social media platform in India. Shifting away from an engagement-maximizing algorithm reduces hate speech. But this comes at a substantial cost to the platform in the form of lower engagement.

Jake Fabian studies a reform in the National Flood Insurance Program under which premiums were updated to better reflect flood risk. He finds that increases in insurance rates are associated with a reduction in development after the reform.
