Having used both macOS and windows before moving to Linux a few years ago I don't miss anything about their desktops. KDE on CachyOS is a very nice desktop. PopOS before was also nice just a little too simple for me.

Well it looks like I was wrong m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Up4... I didn't realise they had approached Maduro already over the last few months asking for access to the oil. I just thought the issues with logistics were so obvious that no one would think it's something they could reasonably ask for

We should put it in our constitution that we shouldn't be able to deploy more than 12 soldiers in a peace mission without his say so. That'll show him.

My feeling is also that it's not oil.

He's a Russian asset so the only countries he doesn't want to have nukes are European ones. Israel, India, Pakistan, China, Russia all fine. UK and France bad. And most definitely not some sort of EU level defense capabilities.

Data centers are more likely to serve bluesky content than NFTs. There is clearly a demand for them, we all contribute to that demand so trying to enforce that the data centers are net zero seems reasonable.

It won't be the question asked but it will be the point made in debates and discussions, as you've discovered it's a hard point to deal with, it really won't be popular. Sovereignty is the authority of a state to govern itself so yes having to ask Putin for permission is undermining our sovereignty
October 6, 2025 at 9:53 PM
I 100% agree, preaching to the choir. UNSC is a mess. A few more steps and you'll reach the same place I'm at.
October 6, 2025 at 8:32 PM
I don't think people care, if you asked people the question like I did do you think you'd get 50%+ in a referedum? Posters with smiling Farage, Trump, Putin etc? Frankly I doubt people would vote yes to that and as you've discovered there isn't a great argument for it when you get to brass tacks.
October 6, 2025 at 8:30 PM
What country does Trump run, remind me? He was on my list too.
October 6, 2025 at 8:26 PM
We're not joining NATO. Simply no support for it and if you think our Dáil would vote for that and people would accept it you're clueless. Look at the triple lock discussion, that's nothing compared to NATO. Are there even 10 TDs who support it?
October 6, 2025 at 8:24 PM
So basically dictatorships and right wing populists should decide what peace missions Ireland should join because they are from other countries? A specific, special 5 leaders that are there for legacy reasons have this power. We'll have to agree to disagree on this.
October 6, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Eh? And the UN? They're definitely putting Israel in it's place?
October 6, 2025 at 8:16 PM
I'm happy to see that at least you see that the UNSC is a mess. There's for hope you yet. It might never be reformed, I don't think the dictatorships will accept any constraints on their power.
October 6, 2025 at 8:15 PM
We will still have constraints, our government, our Dáil and obviously needing other organizations like the EU to partake unless you think we're going to do a peace keeping mission solo. A laughable notion.
October 6, 2025 at 8:09 PM
OK so you have no answer as to why we should require a bunch of dictators and right wing populists give us permission to join peace keeping missions. You could have just said that 6 messages earlier and spared us all this.
October 6, 2025 at 8:07 PM
They vetoed the previous UN mission so it was deemed illegal for Ireland to participate, because Macedonian diplomatic ties with Taiwan. It just underscores how ridiculous the UN requirement is.
October 6, 2025 at 8:05 PM
These semantics are ridiculous, cede our right to join a peace keeping mission then, can you answer the question?
October 6, 2025 at 8:00 PM
Not answering my question, sophistry is a distraction.
October 6, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Yeah, like EUFOR Concordia? Still refusing to answer.
October 6, 2025 at 7:50 PM
It's about controlling your own government anyway you've regressed to semantics now. Refusing to engage with the question.
October 6, 2025 at 7:46 PM
So you have no good reason to support the triple lock. It's a patently nonsense idea when it's stripped down to brass tacks.
October 6, 2025 at 7:39 PM
Yeah you're right, no issue there. What I'd like you to explain is why Ireland should cede its sovereignty to Putin, Xi, Trump, possibly Farage and Le Pen in future. I'm genuinely curious why you support that.
October 6, 2025 at 7:24 PM
We can deploy only 12 troops. Please explain to me what disaster do you think Ireland would embark on without the triple lock. I'm curious what it's to be saving us from.
October 6, 2025 at 5:01 PM
It doesn't stop us from deploying troops it stops us from deploying more than 12. We're the only country in the world with this constraint, it is insulting no matter what you say. As if we couldn't be trusted to make such decisions without the approval of Xi and Putin.
