For the younglings, it's a reference to the 1980s science fiction miniseries "V", which was an allegory about the rise of fascism. Here's a really good article about its impact, a horrible tragedy, and how it's still relevant.

💯Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In the '64 election he just won Arizona and 5 states in the South. The writing was on the wall. And Ronald Regan launched his political career at the 1964 GOP convention.

I can't tolerate hearing Trump speak for more than a few seconds but he's incredibly effective at speaking to his right wing base, particularly right wing white evangelicals. You can see it at his rallies.

Robert G. Bowers, who killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue, was a frequent poster on Gab where he shared his anti semitic views. The second screenshot below shows the post he made on Gab just before he went on his killing spree.

I checked and as of 11:15 PM PDT on 2 September 2025 it's the No 1 on trending tending topics. Not sure if it matters, but I'm in Southern California. In general, I've noticed it's usually a few hours between the time a story breaks and when it shows up on the Bluesky trending topics.
