Presbyterian seminarian. Trivia lover. Huge fan of both Mamma Mia films.
We're finishing up weaning this weekend, and soon I'll feel relieved. But for now I'm feeling sad and nostalgic. I've nursed at church, the mall, the state fair, a baseball game, and a hiking trail. I've nursed during class and while writing papers. It's been hard, but it's also hard for it to end.

Well, turns out the brownies came out super thin and weird because I used powdered sugar instead of flour. Whoops!

There's a news story in my city this morning that has made me realize that they will not be able to accurately count the death toll of this administration.

It's interesting to me which people like which posts of mine over on the other place. To me, when I post Micah 6:8, it's an indictment of the current administration. And it's sandwiched between more explicit posts against it. But then I see Republicans like it, so I guess they should all be explicit

I've run my church's social media accounts for over five years. I've mostly just made and posted images with verses from Sunday's readings. I worried about being one person speaking for my whole church. But now I'm also the ministry intern, and also fascism is happening, so it's on like Donkey Kong.

Some of my classmates have their zoom emojis set to the white skin tone. It makes their raised hand blend into the background, so they get skipped when the professor calls on people. This has been going on for YEARS and they don't change it and the profs don't realize. It's my smallest pet peeve.

We kept forgetting we had clothes in the washer, so the load that is currently in the dryer has been washed three times.

There's a mainline protestant church with a woke lady pastor within walking distance of your house. Everyone there will be thrilled to see someone under 50 at service. There's free donuts too.

Okay, I'll say it. I liked Nick Jonas in Les Mis. Yes, he was a little nasally in places, but he wasn't the train wreck people claim he was. And I don't understand this immediate hate for him in The Last Five Years! Give the guy a break!

The message of Jesus is deeply political. It’s why he was killed.

Empire, then and now, has convinced us to settle for “pie in the sky” when justice “on earth as it is in heaven” could be our reality.

Turns out the vent in our study has been closed, probably the entire time we've lived here. I guess I won't need my "school blanket" for this last semester of my virtual classes!

Someone came up to me after worship and said my sermon was "very theologically sound," which is one of the best compliments I could ever get!

I haven't seen the Wolfman trailer (no horror tolerance), but my husband informs me that his power seems to be that he's always behind people. So obviously they should just set a trap and stand in a circle with their backs to it.

I'm preaching this Sunday in a service that will include renewal of baptism. I'm going to emphasize the rejection of evil. So I'm digging into the confessions for some very rich material on these topics. And, as always, I had forgotten some of the more... interesting pieces born of their time.

Until your overstimulated baby wakes up at midnight and doesn't go back to sleep until two. Still worth it, though.
This was my first one, but it seems like experiencing Christmas as a parent is a special kind of magical.

This is one of those moments where I can't believe how lucky I am to have the husband I have. He's doing an excellent rendition of "What Child Is This" as the Swedish Chef.

This is only my third sermon, so can experienced preachers let me know if you ever get over the feeling of "Oh God oh God this is nothing who let me do this"?

Christmas Vacation is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. So many moments truly kill me every year, but last night I was particularly tickled by Eddie destroying the little wooden decoration with one touch. If you've never seen it, I cannot recommend it enough!

Weary vs. Wary

If you mean that you’re tired, it’s been a long day, then put the “e” before the “a.”

But if you are wary, it means something’s scary, let the “e” sashay away.

Have you ever been reading about Naomi and Ruth and Orpah and thought, "Wow, that looks like it says Oprah"? That's because Oprah's birth certificate says Orpah, and she was named from the book of Ruth. But everyone mispronounced it, and Oprah stuck.

Pondering the parallels between the Eucharist and breastfeeding. Nourishing someone else from your own body is beautiful and scary and intimate and draining in so many ways. (Also breast milk is made from blood.)

Draft openings for my sermon on the Magnificat:

"They're letting the former Catholic preach on Mary. Y'all are in for it now!"

"Perhaps my least favorite Christmas song of all time is 'Mary Did You Know?'"
